Christmas At The Cupcake House:

Holy Christmas Cupcakes!
So many cupcakes to bake in such little time!
Our list of special friends and loved ones is long, and our ovens are really quite small...
to be exact, my oven bakes 18 cupcakes at a time, while Kelly's bakes 24.
so you'll have to excuse us if you didn't find a box of cupcakes outside your door
on Christmas morning. But you'll forgive us, right?
(please say yes.)

In keeping with the Christmas spirit, we were delighted to donate almost all our cupcakes to a group of worthy women and children staying in a local shelter. Their house was beautifully dressed for the season with wreaths, twinkle lights and Christmas trees,  and we hope the fresh baked cupcakes helped to extend this Christmas cheer.

Merry Christmas Everyone!

Another Blog We Love

We Love "Tams' Little Corner of the World", a blog by Tamara Mabley- Chaisson!

Tamara is an multi talented artist and wonderful baker based out of Ontario. I was lucky enough to spend some time with her and occasionally sample her fantastic baked creations when she was living here in Nova Scotia.

Tamara is a friendly person who freely shares all kinds of recipes and craft ideas on her blog, some of her recent posts include how to make home made peppermint marshmallows, London Fog Cupcakes and tips for making easy holiday treats.

She also posts the occasional lovely decor photo or style trick as well. As a matter of fact, everything she makes is lovely. It is clear she pays loving attention to each detail, whether she is making jewelry, a painting or a delectable sweet.

We think you'll love her too, so check out her blog here.

The Gateaux Rose Holiday Table

Crystal and I are both excited for Christmas, and we've been happily baking batches and batches of festive treats over the past few weeks. Last weekend we brought lots of special holiday cupcakes, cookies and cocoa to share at the Historic Halifax Farmers Market.

We brought fruity festive cakes decorated like poinsettias with a rich citrus buttercream. These buttery yellow cupcakes were flavoured with a sprinkling of blueberries, lemon and coconut milk.

We also brought moist, rich chocolate cakes, some were topped with vanilla peppermint buttercream and others were decorated with white roses of sweetened marscapone frosting. This is a new addition to our frosting line up, and it is a very yummy and sophisticated flavour.

Finally we had butter cakes filled with gooey brown sugar caramel and topped with a generous amount of madagascar vanilla buttercream.

We brought other treats too; hand made peppermint candy sticks, peanut butter cups, sugar cookies, bags of biscotti, and cocoa in mocha, peppermint candy cane and spiced flavours.

Our instant cocoa mix is made with rich extra brute cocoa from Cocoa Barry, which makes a rich cup with lots of chocolate flavour. We use high quality instant coffee from "Just Us" in our mocha mix, it is both a local (Nova Scotia) and a fair trade company.

We'll be back at the farmers market in in the new year when the market resumes following its regular Saturday morning schedule on January 8th.

Hope you are enjoying a relaxing holiday season!

Halifax Crafter's Winter Carnival!

Kelly and I worked our bun-bun's off turning our two tiny ovens into a cupcake factory, and we came out of the experience feeling more motivated and excited than ever. I can hardly wait for our next big kitchen adventure. A great big thank you to the organizers and the patrons of this perfectly quirky and hand made market. Hope to see you again this Saturday at the Brewery Market!
